A Place to Belong!

Estimate read time

Why Krista and Jim Ferguson believe in building community, and choose to invest in a place that brings people together.

For Krista and Jim Ferguson, Lake Chelan has never been just a summer destination. For twenty-five years, it has been their place of rest, their place to reconnect, and—slowly but surely—the place that began to feel like home.

They first learned about the Lake Chelan Community Center the way many do: through friends and neighbors and by quietly watching the construction take shape over the years. But what started as curiosity soon became conviction.

They could see what The Community Center would mean for the valley. A place for kids to grow. A place for families to gather. A place where belonging isn’t just an idea—it’s the whole point.

“We feel it’s important to have a community center to provide a place where people and kids can connect,” they shared. “It creates an atmosphere of belonging.”

That word—belonging—is at the heart of their story.

Where Giving Meets Purpose

When Krista and Jim heard the announcement that a Boys & Girls Club would be part of The Community Center, something clicked. They’ve supported Boys & Girls Clubs for years, and knowing that this resource would reach Chelan’s kids made the decision to get involved even more meaningful.

They don’t see their gift as a transaction. They see it as participation.

As a way of strengthening the valley that has welcomed them for so long.

As a way of making sure children have a safe, accepting, energetic place to land after school.

As a way of giving back to a community that has given them so much joy.

“We feel blessed to be able to contribute because it impacts so many families,” they said. “It’s important to help provide access to a safe and accepting gathering place—especially for children.”

Looking Ahead With Hope

Like so many in the valley, Krista and Jim are excited for what’s still to come. They’re especially eager to see a future gymnasium—imagining kids running, teams forming, community events drawing people together in a space full of energy and possibility.

“Our hope is simply to keep watching The Community Center expand,” they said. “We’d love to see a gym added for kids’ activities and community gatherings.”

In their words and their generosity, you can hear the heartbeat of why The Community Center matters. It’s not just a building. It’s a bridge—connecting people, generations, and stories across Lake Chelan.

And it’s made stronger every time someone like Krista and Jim steps forward and says, We believe in this.
